First I would like to start off by saying this book was personally an excellent read to me. Some methods may come off extremely unorthodox to others. The tips and tricks in this book will help you become financially healthy if you are willing to implement the strategy’s given. Like in all areas in life though it is up to you to implement them.
Financial health is as important as mental health and physical health. It is hard to lack in one and be ok in the other two. If you are always stressed out about your finances, it makes it harder to function in other areas of life. So for the golden nuggets this book drops on that alone makes it a book worth reading.
Tim Ferris challenges those who read The 4-Hour Work Week to think more laterally. Challenging what would be considered the societal norm. He starts off by explaining an acronym called D.E.A.L. I will go over each and there importance as well.
Definition
Replace self-defeating assumptions. I always think of the victim mentality when I think of definition. People who constantly feel they will not succeed never will. Be it financially or in any other areas of life. If you are always waiting for life to kick you, that is what life will continue to do.
Now if you replace it with a can do attitude. I guarantee you will start finding opportunities in life. You not only find them, you will begin to act on those opportunities. This is not to say difficult times do not come, but when they do you will find a way out of it. Coming out stronger and looking for your next big goal.
Elimination
Tim Ferris explains how time management is not as important as learning to ignore what is unimportant. I am sure we have all been guilty of this. Maybe you had an assignment you needed to do that was important. Instead of doing it you decided to binge watch your favorite Netflix Series.
You might even check your Facebook feed every 5 minutes and before you know it the day is over. Knowing deep down you could have been doing better things. Learning to ignore the unimportant can save loads of time on a person’s life. Just think about what you do and where you could save yourself on unnecessary unimportant things.
Automation
Learn to automate your cash flow. Living in 2018 this might be the best time to do this. There are so many ways available to put cash flow on auto pilot. Sure you may have to learn some of them, but now is the best time to do that to. I learned how to build a website through Wealthy Affiliate and YouTube videos.
A website can be passive income when you learn to monetize it. Not to mention so many other ways as well. You have the stock market, Online reviews, Self built courses, and the list goes on. Finding a way to automate will save you precious time in life to do other things that may be more important to you than just working all the time.
Liberation
A way of providing mobility. For example if you worked on a laptop. You would not have to be chained to a brick and mortar location. This is extremely liberating, because having the ability to go anywhere gives you so many options. It also puts you in a position to save money.
You could move to a location with cheaper rent. You could travel more having the ability to enjoy your freedom.
Take away
This is just a piece of what the book The 4-hour work week is about. Tim Ferris goes into vivid detail of how to accomplish the life that you want to live.
I don’t want to pretend like it is going to be easy. Anything worth having does take work. I will say if you implement what he talks about in the book your success will come. When it will come? It depends on your effort, and your current situation. I will say if you stay the course it will.
Those who do not like the book I believe are the naysayers. Those who feel it is only obtainable by an elite few. They will find any reason to say why something will not work for them.
I have checked the reviews on amazon and with over 5k reviews it has a 4.4 star rating. If you are looking to clean up financially or go the entrepreneur route this is a book I would definitely recommend reading.
