The question I often get is how are you so optimistic. I am going to give you a few tips and tricks to improve optimism in your life, and explain what being an optimist can do for you!
Defining optimism
I think one of the most important things to understand something is to start with the definition of it. The more you understand it the easier it becomes to do that things. So lets first start with defining what optimism is. In the dictionary it is defined as hopefulness and confidence about the future or the successful outcome of something.
“The talks had been amicable, and there were grounds for optimism”.
Now ask yourself what optimism is to you? Do you agree with that statement? Personally I do believe being an optimist is understanding that all things will turn out alright, and believing in a positive outcome. Being hopeful for the future, and keeping a positive outlook in the present.
What does being optimistic do for you?
I would like to think of life as a game of odds. The better your odds the better chance you have for things to work out for you. Have you ever seen a great poker player at the table of a card game? They do not always get the best cards, but they seem to win consistently. Why does that happen?
I would say it is a variety of things, but one thing is for sure they are optimistic of the outcome. They have a sense in knowing that things are going to work out in their favor, and even if they do lose a hand they know in their heart things are still going to work out in the long run.
Now that I think about it that professional card player that becomes that great in the first place probably did because they were an optimist from the beginning. They knew that things would eventually work out and come together the way the need to, even if at first it was not as such.
The power of optimist
Being an optimist is an extremely powerful tool when you figure out what it can do for you. Knowing that things will eventual work out in your favor as long as you keep at it. Having that ability will strengthen a persons will. Take the time to think about it. Knowing things are going to work out sooner or later, you essentially become an unstoppable force. Building momentum until your time comes to shine.
The crazy things about momentum is things of how powerful of a force that can really be. When you build enough momentum you create something so powerful that it will get to whatever it needs to get, and to get momentum built takes optimism. Knowing that through good times and bad that everything is going to work itself out.
How to be optimistic
Now that you know how powerful of a tool it is to have the question is how do you get there? Being optimistic is far easier to do when things are going your way, but when tough times in life arise it becomes a much more difficult things to do.
I always think of it like this. When is the best time to start an exercise program? Many people tend to wait to start a program when they are extremely out of shape and need to get to a goal. What if you started earlier though. How much easier would the process be if you started before things got that bad. Being in the maintenance stage is one of the best stages to be in. Just having a basic exercise program where you are not killing yourself eating broccoli and chicken every day. When you are at the maintenance you could enjoy your life. Look amazing, and have your occasional cheat meals. Imagine that living like a real human being.
I think being optimistic follows the same concepts. Do not wait to practice being optimistic during the bad times when you really need it. Start when things are going well. Speak optimistic things to yourself. Say to yourself life is great, I love life, and I know things are going to work out.
Everybody is different so different things work for different people. So whatever makes you optimistic of the future and in the present moment use it. What makes you feel happy and know good times are here or around the corner. For me it’s knowing I am alive and breathing. I know that as long as I am breathing good times are here and will be coming. With that being said I always remind myself this. Even as I am typing this, I am grateful and optimistic that “hey I am here and I am breathing in the present moment” Enjoying what I have been provided to have. So when tough times come like, a sickness, a death in the family, or any bad time for that matter, I can sit back and remind myself “hey I am here and I am still breathing, things are going to work out some way somehow.”
Persistence
I hope you all enjoyed this read, and I hope you continue to be persistent in being optimistic. Just like brushing your teeth it is something that you have to maintain and stay consistent with. A daily routine through good times and bad, and with proper maintenance just like physical exercise everything becomes so much easier.
I hope that you all have a bless day and continue to believe in the greatness within. Take care and remember be optimistic!
