A dear friend of mine lost 88 pounds in 10 months! How did she do it? It was quite simple actually.
Lifestyle Change
Before you skip over this section, because you have heard it all before hear me out first 🙂
I know everyone has heard about making lifestyle changes. How it is something that you have to just do. You suck it up and realize that this is going to be a life long thing. Putting it that way kinda sucks doesn’t it. Who wants to eat clean for the rest of their life? I don’t even want to do that. I love apple pie way too much to do that too haha.
What if what you do though however was make major changes, but do it in a subtle way. If you are able to make simple changes, and stayed consistent with those changes, you would be surprised how far you can go.
We all know how tough it can be to stick to big changes. Sometimes I am sure you have heard the saying it takes 21 days to create a habit. I have never seen that happen before. People stick to a really difficult routine for 21 days to feel they have magically created this habit. Then they go the reverse direction after their willpower can no longer handle the torture.
So how do you make drastic lifestyle changes then?

Wise Willpower
Think of it this way. We have a limited amount of willpower in the day. There are a variety of things we have to use are willpower on. You can be doing things from watching the kids, doing a big project, attempting a big goal, and the list can really go on to be anything.
Yet when people try to lose weight they try to go all in on a diet, exercise program, calorie counting, you name it. So what happens. My guess is frustration comes in. You used your willpower incorrectly and you probably end up paying for it. Then you come up with an excuse on why it will not work for you.
What’s The Secret
Dulce is the woman who lost 88lbs in a 10-month time frame. So the question is how did she do it. It is a funny story really. She was telling me about how bad her knees and back would bother her, and wished that she could fix it.
As a trainer and her being a dear friend to me, I had to be honest with her. I mentioned to her that if she lost some weight it would take a lot of strain off of her knees and back. I also told her I would give her the advice she needed to reach her success.
The secrets I gave to her I am about to give to you. This can happen for you if you follow the plan correctly. I will say however to speak with your doctor first before attempting any kind of changes. I do not know what you alignments are exactly, and you will have to get clearance from a doctor before attempting any of these options.
Change One Thing
It starts with making just one change. Just like I mentioned before we only have so much willpower, and if you try to overload it only bad things will happen. Focus on one major change you can make. Maybe you drink soda every day. Try cutting it down to a soda every other day for the first week, and then two sodas for the entire week for the next.
Make these goals simple enough to where you do not quite feel like you are really changing anything, but go all in on the changes that you are makings.
Going all in would mean you go 100% on that particular thing you are doing. Write it down, take notes, and be realistic. Most of my clients don’t even realize what is going on when I make changes for them, and that is the way it is suppose to be. Subtle changes that do not effect your day to day too drastically.
Most people go too hard too early.
You don’t go hard until you have built some momentum, and you build momentum by having victories. No matter how small those victories may be. This is a day by day process. If you mess up that’s ok, but don’t use that as your reason to quit. Just make the necessary readjustments and keep at it.
Break A Sweat
This can be something as simple as going on a nice stroll in the park. Again it is about building a base. You do not have to go hard. Remind your body what it feels like to move again.
Do enough to get a little of a sweat going. Enjoy the journey. I would even say do a little less than what you think is needed. The biggest problem I have had with clients is they go way too hard. When I first train a client they look at me like, is that it. Then they will say, I wanted to do more. I say to them that’s good. Come back tomorrow and we will come back where we left off.
You want people to come back wanting more. I’m sure you might know this story. You go to the gym go all out, and say damn I can barely move. I can’t even use my toilet. It’s probably fun the first week or two, but it is hard to maintain and you just give up.
Like I said before this is a lifestyle, and should be treated as such. You would not brush your teeth for 24 hours straight and say, looks like I won’t have to brush my teeth for a while. Since that is true, why do so many people try to kill themselves in the gym thinking they will get immediate results in 2 weeks.
You have seen how far a person can go in 10 months. It does not have to be rushed. It just has to be done correctly, and consistently. Make the small changes, have a plan, and take the action.
